In 1982, when Crucible Steel closed it's doors, a new door was opened for the
DaLonzo brothers. Joe, Rock and John, along with their wives, decided to open a
family pizza shop. As the years passed, business flourished. It was then, Joe's youngest
son Nick, attending Ohio State University, decided to leave school to help his father in
the family business. Though his life plans were altered, that didn't bring Nick down,
for he would now get the chance to experience his one true passion...that of cooking.
Business was booming but came to an abrupt halt in early 1988. DaLonzo's Pizza
suffered a major fire, putting the shop out of business. The brothers decided not to
reopen. Nick returned to school, with the love and support of his wife Jacki. He
graduated from Jefferson Technical College with a degree in Xray Technology.
Though a great achievement, he always kept the business in the back of his mind. He
spent many years planning his return...planning the rebirth of DaLonzo's Pizza.
Ten long years went by and in 1998 Nick opened his own shop. DaLonzo's Pizza had found a new home
at the bottom of Rt. 45 in Wellsville, the site of the old Dairy Queen. His father Joe
agreed to help him in any way that he could. Jacki was behind him all the way and now a
new addition to the family was there to add a helping hand also. His son Nicholas.
They never would have guessed the response of the community. Carrying
the DaLonzo's Pizza name also meant carrying the DaLonzo's Pizza reputation. That
he did and then some.
In 2001, an addition was added on to the shop. This addition would open a whole new door of
opportunity. A full line Italian restaurant lay in his hands. With some old family recipes
and a lot of recipes of his own, Nick changed the name to simply, DaLonzo's. The business
would establish it's place in the community of Wellsville.
Nick's only regrets are the passing of his Mother and Grandmother. They were his true critics.
They were the ones who inspired him in the art of cooking in the first place.
Nick finally outgrew this location and in 2005, the dream of a lifetime came his way. The
Fairview Elementary School Building was being sold. Nick was the highest bidder at the public auction.
So here we are today, DaLonzo's On The Hill. A 12,000 square foot building, nestled in this beautiful
country setting. A building with endless possibilities. Everything a customer needs is right here.
From casual dining to large dinner parties. From small birthdays to large receptions.
Only time will tell what is in store for DaLonzo's On The Hill...
